Louatlvc
Greetings, Just purchased a 2015 FJ09 with 6k miles. Ive had Yamahas (FJR and Super Tenere) but this is my first triple. I’m experiencing an engine “buzz” and wondering if it’s a fuel delivery issue or simply a characteristic of the triple. When I’m accelerating through gears engine is very smooth. But, when I maintain a steady speed with throttle barely open (1/10th throttle) the engine becomes very buzzy which can be felt in grips and foot pegs. Normal? thanks much. Toddtr
Sync your throttle bodies, it’s a 30 minute task, borrow a digi sync if you can
nhchris
I'd say very normal, especially if the former owner installed an undamped front sprocket. Pop off the primary cover and inspect the front sprocket. If it does not have a rubber isolation ring between the inner and outer gear teeth. It is undamped. The FJ is a buzzy bike compared to your previous rides. Nature of the CP3 beast. Louatlvc
Thanks guys. Just checked and I DO have the rubber insulated front sprocket. I don’t think PO ever had throttle sync done. I have a sync tool but only for twin. Just ordered one and I’ll sync this weekend. See what happens. The buzzyness is not a problem. Just foreign to what I’m used to coming from parallel twins or in line fours.
roy826
Mine is pretty buzzy as well above 6k rpms. New 2020 only 400 miles on it.
riding_tall
Sync'n the throttle body's, run the chain a little loser than factory spec and some bar end weights all helped on mine. Now I don't notice.

nhchris
That’s it. When I installed my 17 front I checked them out and they only did 15 and 16 tooth offerings. My undamped 17 is noisier than my old damped 16. 1 1968 Triumph Bonneville 650 1971 Norton Commando Roadster 2002 Harley 1200 Sportster 2003 Honda ST 1300 2016 FJ
Supporting Member knyte Posted November 9, 2020 Supporting Member Share Posted November 9, 2020 Thanks. Although I don't have the buzzing - at least, not that I'm aware of - I do notice the occasional 'sharp' shift if I'm not carefully smooth with the clutch...this should help a bit, hopefully. 2015 FJ-09 / FJR touring bags / oil plug mod / Evotech rad guard / SW Motech bash plate / GIVI DS2122S windscreen / Seat Concepts: Sport Touring / Vcyclenut ABS rings (speedo correction) / Cosmo RAM mount
