wordsmith
I have just ordered one of these systems from E-Bay: Motorcycle Bike TPMS Tire Tyre Pressure Monitoring System +2 Tyre Sensors MA1713. I had a similar function on past BMWs, although that was internal to the tyres and showed the info on the bike's display screen. It was always a source of some background comfort to be able to check tyre pressures each morning, especially if far from home. This purchase should reinstate that sense of 'all's well'. I'll report back here once fitted and in-use. Riding a fully-farkled 2019 MT-09 Tracer 900 GT from my bayside home in South East Queensland, Australia. Supporting Member dazzler24 Posted September 9, 2019 Supporting Member Share Posted September 9, 2019 Is there any need to check/adjust wheel balance with these things installed? .... or are they really too light to create any real issue? Just curious.

Just curious. Others have said here that they don't give rise to any balance issues. Product descripton says 'light weight, no need to rebalance wheels...' Wheel sensors apparently weigh only 50g each. We shall see! LATER EDIT! The sensors only weigh 10g per wheel... bugie
@wordsmith - Not sure if you are aware but you can't use those on the stock rubber valves. You will need to replace them for metal ones. At speed the rubber valves will vibrate and will eventually tear (because of the higher centre of gravity).
wordsmith
Didn't know that, bugie: thanks for the heads-up. I'll deal with that when the kit arrives. 🙁 Riding a fully-farkled 2019 MT-09 Tracer 900 GT from my bayside home in South East Queensland, Australia. Just mulling this over - where does one find and/ or have fitted metal valves? I don't recall having seen such, except for the screw-on right-angle stems that ease access for servo tyre-hoses. TIA... bugie
@wordsmith - Most tyre places should have. Failing that you can try Ebay or Amazon. Amazon.com: metal+valve+stems Amazon.com: metal+valve+stems You can also use those 90 degree stem valves Edited September 9, 2019 by bugie
wordsmith
Thanks again, guys. From the look of things the tyres need removing so the metal stems can be installed - I'll get onto the local bike tyres specialist and find out what's involved. I appreciate the advice. LATER EDIT: there seem to be different sizes of stems to fit different installation holes in the rims. Any ideas which is the size for our GTs? The tyre guy can install, but wants to see them first. The stems only cost a few dollars a pair, but it would be my luck to order the wrong ones and have to wait for replacements to arrive! TIA... StealthAu
Tyre shops will have various sizes on hand. Just have them supply and install. Buying your own won't save you bugger all.
chitown
The GT fiche indicates it uses 93900-00030-00, Valve, Rim (Tr412) TAIHEIYO, the same part number as all my Yamahas since 2000, and it's 11.3mm -- the most common size for Japanese street bikes. 8.3mm are also sold by most moto suppliers and is generally for European, after market, a few older Japanese bikes, etc. Cruisers and BMWs are sometimes special unto themselves. bugie
Section 6 of the GT owners manual states the Tyre valve size as TR412. Valve core #9100 Edited September 10, 2019 by bugie
wordsmith
Thanks, bugie - I didn't think to look there, not that it shows any dimensions, but the tyre guy may be able to decipher the info. Every bike I've owned has had them fitted with the first tyre change. I would have thought all the shops carry them. They're 11.3mm. Get some right angles ones. I didn't do any thing special. Just screwed them on the tires and off I went.
