Your Previous Ride?

Hmmm... I still have my most previous ride a 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere. However during the 50 or so years that I’ve been riding I’ve had a lot of different bikes. I guess I should make a list sometime.
I was thinking about making a list of my previous bikes while I can still remember them but I keep forgetting to remember to make the list.  :P

I'd make a list but I've been riding for a tad over 50 years so it's a bit of a daunting task.

If we limit it to bikes that were licensed for the road it'd be in the neighborhood of 30.  If we include dirt beaters, it'd be close to twice that.

Speaking of unusual bikes, I also had a 1974 Suzuki TC 125 with a dual-range transmission (4 low and 4 high gears). In the picture, the v-shaped lever on top of the crankcase was how you changed the range; kick it forward for low and back for high if I remember correctly. In low range, the bike could climb a tree but couldn't go very fast. Fortunately you could change the range on the fly so I was able to beat much faster bikes just because of the insane pickup in low range. Ah memories.

I learned to ride a bike before I ever drove a car.

1st bike was an old YZ-50, much like this:

That was in 1981, I think, I was 12 years old & my dad got it for me. (Mom was pissed)
I rode that for a few years, learned to drive a car (stick, of course), got my auto license and got my first street bike.
It was an '85 Honda Magna V30, 500cc's of pure awesomesauce. :P It looked like this:

Years later, I decided to get full-on into cruisers. (Don't judge me. You're judging me right now, aren't you?)
I bought a 1993 Suzuki Intruder 800. Like this:

It took me all of 2 years to determine I hated cruisers. Uncomfortable as hell. Meh. Anyway.
I sold it 2 years later, because I finally became a first time home owner, needed the cash and really disliked the damn bike anyway. So I fell out of riding for a spell. A few years later, I came back around in 2007 and decided I really missed riding. So I bought my very first brand-new motorcycle: A 2007 SV-650 naked, this one in fact, that's me on the tail of the dragon:

One of the best bikes I ever had. Modded the crap out of it, and I put over 27,000 miles on it in about 6 years.

Alas, the freaking Duel-Sport / ADV bug bit me. So I lost my mind, sold the SV, and bought a nice, low-miles used KLR-650.
I enjoyed that for less than 2 years, when I discovered that I hated the low HP and slow performance. Off-roading was fun, but I missed railing the corners on the pavement more.

So, in 2015 I did a lot of homework and soul-searching, and sold the KLR and bought my FJ-09. Best bike yet. No regrets.

1974:  1st Bike used Yamaha RD 200 (can't remember year).  Had about week when a woman knocked me over the Julia Tuttle Causeway in Miami, Florida.  Long Fall.  Ruined the Motorcycle and my day. >:(:)

2006:  Decided I wanted to ride again after 32 years and bought a 2005 Ridley.  Perhaps the biggest piece of junk ever produced that had a motor.  However it made me want to keep riding.

2006:  Sold Ridley bought a 2006 Suzuki DL650 (WeeStrom).  Kept that bike for just on 100,000 miles.   Sold it in 2015.

2007:  Bought 2003 Honda ST1100.  Loved that bike.  Kept it about 7 months and my first long trip 3 weeks and approx 10,000 to the West Coast and back.  Sold it after about 15,000 total.

2008:  Bought a 2005 Yamaha FJR1300 with 3500 miles on it for $3,000.  Best buy I ever made.    When all was said and done kept it about another 95,000 give or take.   Made 4 cross country round-trips and numerous long weekend stuff.   Outside of a trade to a friend for his 2005 Honda ST1300 which we unwound 3 months later when we he decided he hated my FJR and decided I hated his ST1300 ... I kept it until 2016 when I sold it.

2015:  Sold WeeStrom and bought 2012 Yamaha Super Tenere 9300 miles on it.  90,000 odd miles later it is still here and I still ride.  By far the best long distance sport / adventure touring bike I have ever owned.

2017:  (Late August/Early September) Purchase a leftover 2015 FJ-09.  14,500 miles later still here and currently fitting MC Cruise on.  What a fun bike.  Several short 3-4 day trips on.  Just flat out fun.

1. GS500 (used)
2. SV650
3. Street Triple R
4. FJ-09

All were great choices for where I was in my riding, and a logical progression I think.

My last bike was a Triumph TT600:

TT_yellow.jpg

I loved that bike. I bought it new in 2000, and sold it in 2008 when I decided to take a few years off riding.

The FJ was a re-entry bike for me in 2015. I thought I wanted an FJR, but I thought it would be better to start with something lighter like the FJ-09.

Three years in I have zero desire for a heavier bike.
