  1. I've got an Olympia 3-layer that's similar to this Olympia Troy Jacket The Troy does it all. Huge mesh for summer, rain jacket for wet... ...so the mesh is the main layer. Then you can add a thermal layer (zipped to the inside of the mesh layer, and velcro tabs in the sleeves) and/or a rain layer. The rain layer can be worn inside (also zippered in) or outside (which I prefer). This was among the better choices for value when I was looking ~2 years ago. EDIT: it's the Alpha - and on sale for a scream of a deal: Olympia Alpha Jacket | 50% ($150.49) Off! The Alpha Jacket is the first thing you'll reach for when...
  2. pfft, to heck with the rest of the world! ...I'm waiting for the white crap to disappear
  3. Dang, too bad, I was looking forward to your findings. Thanks for the update!
  4. From your pics, this looks easy/cheap/effective: ..otherwise, I'm sure you're right about an engine hoist or overhead crane. Obviously there'd be a specific point to lift from.
  5. @HGP61 I completely agree with you, and echo your sentiments entirely - I got used to it. Still - there is some deeply rooted ADHD/ADD part of me that is dying without a 3/4 indicator!!
  6. Meh, you're not completely alone! I fumble with the seat adjuster insert every time I have to remove / replace the battery. Never seem to be able to line it up right the first time.
  7. That would matter a lot to me. I'm 6', but mostly legs, and flexibility is a challenge. That's pretty much why I got an FJ-09 in the first place: it's a tall bike, but a light bike. That's a combination more difficult to find than expected. It's one of the few that I can be comfortable on all day long. I wonder if the seat is still adjustable? ...that was my first thought, too. Usually the last model is the best model. I'm tempted to find a sale, but TBH my 15 is doing me fine. About all that's missing might be heated grips and CC.
  8. Sweet! Welcome! Great crowd here, very knowledgeable. I think you're going to love that Tracer - the throttle is just so linear all the way up the RPM gauge.
  9. Ah, so, stroked engine and 'semi active' suspension. Interesting.
  10. Yeah I agree. I watched the promo vid and the 360 photo - it just looks sort of bloated and chunky...they've styled out those nice simple lines, replaced with bulbous and semi-useless protrusions for seemingly no reason. bleh Then again, who knows. Maybe it's a blast to ride and it's a killer deal in this segment.
  11. Yep, shop manual is excellent info, but it's not necessarily always a how-to. It assumes you understand certain principles. Just dive in. Sometimes your best strength is knowing what you don't know. Ask questions, find reference material, search YouTube.. You'll find your way. As you gain experience, you'll gain confidence and pretty soon it gets easier.
  12. Two FJ-09's in the same house?! ...are you accepting adoptions?
  13. I have the exact same rollie - fits perfectly with the FJR bags mounted. Very sturdy, and I can carry pretty much anything I want. Only problem being - I tend to keep rain gear in the side bags. With the rollie slung across the seat and over the bags, it's not easy to access said gear if oh, say, all of a sudden the weather changes and I have to gear up STAT. Speaking from experience here.
  14. @Wintersdark did a great write up; might get you in the right direction:
  15. Stuff happens, don't be too hard on yourself...no one can anticipate every variable ...especially post-accident...I rear-ended someone years ago (4 wheeler, totally my fault), no injuries at all or anything...but I was rattled the rest of the day. A little bit of shock - especially after a motorcycle accident - totally understandable!!
  16. Thanks. Although I don't have the buzzing - at least, not that I'm aware of - I do notice the occasional 'sharp' shift if I'm not carefully smooth with the clutch...this should help a bit, hopefully.
  17. OGNIBENE (#21607-7180) 525 Pitch Rubber Dampened Front Sprocket - YAMAHA - FJ-09 2015-2018 - Yamaha - STREET Fits the YAMAHA FZ/FJ 900/700/800 , R-1 models - OEM-Style... Like this ? Dang, that explains a few things...
  18. What's your take on them? I realize they're a road bias, but interested in hearing your thoughts, as I may be doing a bit more off-roading as time progresses...
  19. Great vid; congrats! That's my kind of silliness
  20. They're a wear component like brakes & rotors...replace 'em!
  21. Sta-Bil was recommended to us when we store our Porsche, because it also cleans fuel injectors. Seems like it's the top pick for a few reasons: displaces water fuel stabaliser cleans injectors Just found this - seems pretty recent, but I've never seen the site nor author before...ingest with salt!
  22. As a friend is fond of saying, "mileage goes back up when the novelty wears off". ...but what if the novelty doesn't wear off
