  1. I'm not sure the FJ stand and the Tracer GT stands are the same, but... Two different issues come to mind: The leg of the stand is too short or The foot of the stand is too small. Before buying my FJ I researched every gripe and complaint. One of them was the length of the stand, and one fellow welded a bit of an extension to make the leg longer. My g/f's BMW 650 GS had this mod applied before she bought it, so it seems to be somewhat common mod. OK, I thought, no big deal, I can adjust that if need be. The first few rides saw that to be true - it did feel a bit short. However, after about 5 rides - didn't notice any longer. I can hook it fine with my heel now without looking, and have climbed on at various odd canted angles with no trouble at all. I've pivoted the bike on just the stand - no weight on the wheels at all - to get out of tight situations and it's held up fine. On very hot days, the foot does occasionally sink in to the hot asphalt, but neither issue has been bad enough to necessitate modifying anything.
  2. At the course here in Edmonton they taught us to use the key and not the kill switch. Reason being, the ignition key goes through many thousands of cycles in testing for reliability, and tends to be more robust, mechanically. The kill switch, however, is only tested for a few hundred uses. I don't recall the actual numbers or whatever, but that's the concept. So, I got in the habit of using the key only. However, the FJ key is in a bit of an awkward position - that is, until the handlebars are in the lock position - the key is then easily accessed, even with gloves on.
  3. I grew up in N Vancouver and the Interior - I cannot WAIT to visit my brother in Nanaimo and ride around around the Island. Tofino, here I come! Congrats on the new wheels!
  4. Looks great! Looking forward to your adventures and photos!
  5. ...and we gain another user with tremendous amounts of knowledge and experience...wow! Good to have you!
  6. I usually pull the batteries out of whatever vehicle I'm storing for the winter, and connect them all to a battery tender. Good opportunity to treat the clamps if there's any corrosion (axle grease is usually good enough).
  7. Yeah, epic mistake / misprint / typo / glitch there. Found this ad for med/L/XL - not bad for 50 clams CAD: Amazon.ca Something Went Wrong / Quelque chose s'est mal passé Thanks for the info! Very helpful.
  8. Gotta be the strangest bike cover I have ever seen Amazon.ca What rabbit hole have you made me fall down I've been thinking about a half-cover too, danged UV just ruins everything.
  9. Looks great! What bags are those? They almost look like they're using the factory mounts.
  10. Yaasss...packing cubes - worth every penny.
  11. Very very cool - can't wait to see your photos and such. Looking forward to it!!
  12. We did the Edmonton / Cochrane / Banff / Jasper / Edmonton loop last year. Can't wait to do it again. Tip: bring your bread bags...very high altitudes = sudden weather changes
  13. I was literally just discussing this ride with a work friend. I've driven through there many times, but a ride would be stellar.

    Helmet stink

First part, check Second part, yep this is also in the cards this spring. I usually keep it pretty short, but gone is an option too.

    Helmet stink

That's two votes - also looks like a good option. I was thinking of trying a Buff, but they're not really a wicking material, it seems. Buffs are also WAY more expensive, lol.

    Helmet stink

I sure do, except on very warm days. Constantly have to flip the visor up to clear the fog. I've tried all the usual anti-fog measures, but it's looking like a pin-lock will be the answer. Now this I had not thought of, mostly because I've got a comm system installed, but...it's just velcroed in, so shouldn't be a big deal to give it a wash.

    Helmet stink

Man, I'm sure glad to know I'm not the only one. Some really great ideas here, and it's helping to devise a strategy Thanks for all the great ideas!

    Helmet stink

My g/f has an HJC IS Max 2 and loves it. We just ordered her some tinted visors and a chin curtain. Oddly - or, not - hers doesn't smell at all!! I offered to dismantle/clean it it but she didn't want me to.

    Helmet stink

That's the funny thing - in all my life, my feet / shoes / boots / socks have never been a problem whatsoever. After years of cross country skiing, work boots, insulated gum boots, moto boots. Stick me in a full face helmet, visor down, and I'll reek anyone out of the room.
  21. OK this isn't a gear review so much as a gear question Nearly any time I get in to a car, my side of the vehicle fogs up. I've just learned to live with it. Last year my helmet STUNK pretty bad from the previous year, so I disassembled it and washed all the padding. This year it's even worse...even with the pads removed, the hard styrofoam liner still reeks. The cheek pads and such are all antimicrobial..but sheesh, this is insane. The last few rides last fall were uncomfortable (as in smell) due my clearly sweaty head. It's an AGV K3, and has decent ventilation - which I do make use of!! What do you do to help quell the helmet stink ? I was thinking of some anti-bacterial Febreeze, but chemical smell isn't my favourite, either. Just hoping to neutralize it a bit, somehow. There's got to be a better way!
  22. As much as I love the simplicity of Rotopax, they are bloody spendy, or can be. My g/f's bike came with modified rear footpegs...small sheet metal trays that will hold a 2 gal jerry can. Cheap!
  23. This is what I did. Worked out to $500 USD all in, including each of the $100 brackets required. Far cheaper than aftermarket bags & bracketry. For more storage I just got a waterproof rollie bag and strap it over the pillion seat. I've seen other bikes with cases similar to @Ride On's suggestion - also a very cost effective solution.
  24. lol I can relate to this. Looks sharp though, nice find.
