  1. Nothing too fancy - Garmin has an app for your phone - just open it up and enable Livetrack. Unfortunately, the data is short lived - 3 days or something. Today won't be that interesting - we plan on the QEII, which is just a straight highway into Edmonton. EDIT: We ended up taking HWY 21 from Red Deer, north to HWY 14
  2. It's been smokey, for sure. It'd say about 10 km visibility at worst. Clearing up as we hear back north to Edmonton. Lost yesterday's data, but here is today's. Did about 20 kms on gravel today (total) in and out of an area dad used to work. The ranger station is gone, but the roads were good and it was a blast getting there. Beautiful scenery, and well off the beaten path. The Micheline Road 5's weren't the best; I had to disable traction control to climb up a hill with lots of loose material and washboard.
  3. Left Edmonton for Canmore on Wednesday: https://livetrack.garmin.com/session/75766fa2-e5d6-4dc3-aa35-44e4bbec8de7/token/289A5DD6A03F8D3D4BB479E5F9D7AA6E Canmore to Invermere yesterday: https://livetrack.garmin.com/session/ffee4564-e3b2-4ea2-ac7c-0e33a3b3edad/token/F8F0411E14F6E455934784FE2C9C865B
  4. Paint, psh: ...kidding, of course. If (when) it happens to me again I'd probably use Plastidip, too.
  5. I think there are a few folks here with Camelbaks. My Klim Quench Pak - 2 litre - should arrive today (review to come). I'm curious to know what other folks use, how you like it, how has it changed your riding (if at all); general thoughts. Would you add ice to the water, or slip in an ice pack? I have a full-face helmet so I'm not entirely sure how to route the tube, but I'm sure it's not that difficult. The Klim has a baffle inside which is an interesting feature.
  6. Great report, thanks for that. Cruise is the ONE thing I really wish mine would have. A throttle lock helps, but doesn't 100% solve it (maybe 62.2% solved).
  7. Vibes. They filter the human voice, so I can still hear music etc but the helmet / wind noise etc is all but gone.
  8. Evotech - also a perfect fit, and covers the tanks on the sides. Rubber mounts, so no rattles.
  9. My g/f: ..."so they made an around town scooter that will never see the highway ?"
  10. ...at 1250 cc's, you're not kidding. One blip at the red light and you'll be pushing it to the gas station.
  11. The red looks really good with the copper heads IMHO.
  12. It certainly has been addressed in my opinion. I haven't tuned the suspension whatsoever except to give the rear a bit of preload to compensate for gear on long rides. I don't feel any slope at all, and I tend to carry my weight a bit more forward on the seat, more so on my pubic bone rather than cheek bones, if that makes sense. MUCH more comfortable now. pics:
  13. Absolutely! It so happens my dad is in from BC, and I took next week off in hopes that we will do some riding. If we come to Calgary I'd be happy to give you a heads up.
  14. 2015 FJ w.FJR1300 touring bags here - high pressure wash, torrential rain both in warm and cold weather, high altitudes...never had a problem. I don't think submerging them in water would be a good idea...but otherwise, they seem to seal up great.
  15. Sharp eye. It's a very light duty / entry level machine, I'm not sure it'd handle this gauge of alum ? Honestly I'm not sure! Good enough reason to bust it out of the box...
  16. Installed new mirrors and bash plate yesterday. Over winter, the left mirror cracked for no real reason - extreme cold, I guess. I ordered another from a local dealer in April - I'm sure I'll get the call any day now. Ordered some 3rd party knock-offs from Amazon and the pair arrived in three days. They look identical with some minor exceptions to some of the bracketing - but it all fit fine, just like stock. With the bash plate I finally feel ready for some longer gravel rides now that the eggshell oil pan has a carton under it. Installation was ez pz. I did drill a hole for the oil plug (off a bit) using the largest bit I have on hand, which isn't big enough, lol. Need to get a reamer and sort that out another day.
  17. And here you go, you can thank this type of activity that ruins it for everyone else: https://globalnews.ca/news/7989386/toronto-street-racing-project-takeover-yrp-toronto-peel-police-opp/
  18. Blech, that MT-09 looks like something that should have come from Delta Force.
  19. Met a fellow at Cabela's off Manning Drive, north, on a white 2017 FJ-09 with an interesting (to me) configuration. Larger handguards, heated handgrips, tail tidy, shorter windscreen, Kappa panniers & rear rack, Givi lock ring & tank bag, custom exhaust. It had a great snap to it, with a bit of an unusual note, without being too loud or drone-y. I don't think it had been flashed, but I could be wrong. I don't usually go for exhaust note, but this was a bit different than most. I mean, I'm human - the Lexus LFA gives me goosebumps every time. To me, a well-tuned performance engine makes the exhaust sound good, not necessarily the other way around. I invited him to the forum...he has a lot to offer, as a rather humble racer - sponsored, if I followed between the lines.
  20. Edmonton just passed a law that will see most residential area speed limits reduced from 50 kmh to 40 kmh. A policy of which I'm in favour. Reduced speed increases reaction time and stopping distance. I think Ontario is simply struggling to curb the Fast and The Furious crowd. Lots of street racing from what I understand. Best way to combat that is to make it VERY expensive. I personally know of someone who was riding his sport bike on the 401 at a VERY high rate of speed when a car merged in front of him. His best friend saw the whole thing from behind and had to scrape the tissue off of his boots and bike. Time and place, and all that.
  21. Seat Concepts Sport Touring seat cover & foam kit: 4.5 - it is very firm, far more comfortable, and to steal someone else's description, the foam is deeply 'dished' which takes a bit to grow accustomed to. 5 - because the foam adds ~ 1/2", there is no slope at all any longer. Great if you have a tall inseam.
  22. Great report! Sounds like you addressed all the squeaks and rattles. Now you can start enjoying that amazing engine
