Reno doesn't get snow anywhere like Calgary unless you go high.
It's got to be miserable having to park on the street.
To me, that's at no way no how. I used to have a rat bike for winter but I had a heated shop.
Now I'm too old and my blood has thinned out.
I hope my kid stays in San Diego cuz that's where I'm then going when it's cold...
we've got covered parking so I just stick my bikes in front of the truck and cover them up, disc lock, and lock them together with a huge chain. it's not too big of an issue actually.
if someone wanted to steal them they'd need to get through the big chain locking them together at minimum and then yank somebody's vehicle out with (won't be mine as I keep my parking brake on fully) or somehow pick the bikes up and carry them out between two cars. and at that point they can have the damn bikes LOL.

Quite possible. When something appears too good to be true, it is. Scams don't need to be 100% effective to be worth the zero investment costs.
generate a one time use card number and make sure it's a credit card.. what do you have to lose? LOL.

I've never heard of retrofitting Gsxr fork internals to an FJ
Have you done any research in that regard?
he's an ex-racer who mostly works on race bikes but has done a couple of MT09's. I'll update you all after it's done

after spoiling my DR650 (carb, shock, forks, steel braided lines in the past 2 months), I decided to pull the trigger on an ohlins shock for the FJ09. I met an awesome guy in town who used to race motorcycles and now operates his own shop out of his garage. He's going to pull the internals out of a GSXR fork and make them fit in the FJ09 fork for an awesome suspension set up here in the next couple of weeks.

That's awesome. Not quite a barn find, but almost as good.
You could always tune up the BMW and sell it for a profit...
+1, take it on the trip and then flip it for double what you paid. Or sell the FJ and then buy an MT09/XSR900!

Awesome responses, glad to know I'm not the only one enjoying so much this "old" bike. This bike looks so much better in person than in pictures!
So I did some test riding for about 50km so far. I love how nimble it feels, the engine sound is so raw even with the stock pipe. It vibrates and shakes more than I thought though, and the idle rattle is a bit worrying even though some threads here point out that it's normal.
I did a 6th gear pull vs my dad's Tiger 1050 and he flew past me at low revs, but then the FJ catched up nicely.
I saw some threads here about people doing more than 200,000 miles on these bikes!!! amazing
yeah the idle rattle is pretty normal, albeit jarring. mine shakes a ton when it's cold out

enjoy the fastest red 2015! I'm on my second 2015 and it's my favorite generation, easy to work on and easy to make perfect with some suspension upgrades and an ECU flash.

I remember just as it was happening, I was leaned over turning left onto my street and could see his car start to move as I was about 3 feet in front of him. As he knocked me over and I was laying in the street, my first reaction was anger, for what he had just done to my bike. I remember not being concerned with 'me' but being furious for what he had done to my bike... funny how we prioritize.
As for the bike,- if the repair assessment ends up being minor cosmetic repairs, I will just fix everything and continue on with my riding season (bike had very recent valve inspection, new tapered steering bearings, suspension servicing and is right at 67k miles, I'll easily get to 80K this year) but if it ends up being a total write-off then I'm at a cross roads. Do I get another Tracer since its familiar? or do I get adventurous and look at something completely different?
I think everyone here, including myself, would advocate for another Tracer. And me personally, I'd recommend another 2015, LOL! But this is a great time to be shopping for a new sport touring bike, lots of options out there that weren't available 8 years ago (can't believe my FJ09 is already that old, I got my first 2015 FJ09 in 2016 and it felt brand new). The new GSXR specifically looks pretty nice.

noooo! sorry to hear that man. glad that you're alright, you can always buy another bike worst case scenario.

Sorry I didn't get back to you, I've not been on for a while. Just normal wear. Just needed fork seals at about 260,000. Still original clutch and all bearings. Hope to make 300,000 miles by this time next year. I'm 79 yrs. young we will see who wears out first me or the bike.
amazing and inspiring me to get out there and ride more. only 12500 on my 2015 fastest red
