  1. I got mine installed today, VERY high quality fit and finish and fairly straight forward installation. The instructions are hit and miss and leave a lot to trial and error. When I cut the bulbous catalyst section from the header I weighed it at around 13 lbs as opposed to the Scorpion mid pipe and silencer at 2.5 lbs. Upon starting the bike (after cleaning any greasy fingerprints) the first thing I noticed is (with the baffle in) it isn't too much louder than stock, however the tone is much deeper, like listening to your stereo and then turning up the subwoofer. No droning sound on the interstate, once up to speed with traffic, I didn't even notice the exhaust note. I have no intention of running it with the baffle out (I have to co-exist with neighbors) but may try it briefly, just because. One thing I didn't expect was the improved throttle response, (I noticed this as soon as I took off, before getting out of the cul-de-sac) I'm not sure if there is much more power than stock but the bike seems to rev quicker and much more immediate. The throttle even seems to turn easier, -prior to installing the slip-on I was getting ready to lube or replace the throttle cables, it felt like there was a fair bit of resistance when turning the throttle, now it feels like the bike is uncorked and very free flowing. Lighter weight, deeper exhaust note, more streamlined appearance, quicker throttle response and it didn't break the bank - I'm pleased with the Scorpion.
  2. Your upgraded suspension should NOT be harsh, you should definitely be able to adjust it to your liking. To this day, I always ride with a straight slot screwdriver so I can just pull over, make a quick adjustment and be on my way. One suggestion, only make one adjustment at a time, front rebound or rear compression etc. and make small adjustments, like 1-2 clicks so you can feel the difference you are making.
  3. Prepare to be amazed, and fall in love with your FJ all over again. Agree 100%. Suspension is something I budget for with every bike I own. The initial cash outlay is expensive but the return on your money with improved performance and control is priceless.
  4. The Texas Hill Country? Definitely get the suspension done first, and then head out for a few days shredding around the hill country. A well setup FJ is perfect on those roads. Certain words just pop out at me when reading a post... HaHa, just having withdrawls here, its been a week since I have been out rippin' up some twisties.
  5. I have not ordered mine yet, I will probably wait a few months. I just ordered a Scorpion slip-on and next month will sent my suspension in for its 2-year servicing, all other frivolous expenses will wait until after the holidays. I checked on the Colorrite website and the '14 FJR, '15 FJ09 and '17 FZ09 are all listed under the same paint code: 0918 Deep Red Metallic K.
  6. I have ridden in the 30's many, many times, the oem heated grips are worth their weight in gold but wearing a base layer and riding pants, I have never felt the need to spend money on a heated seat. I will however, 100% recommended a heated vest to keep your core warm. I bought this Tourmaster Synergy Vest with heated collar!! It has 5 heat levels on the heater controller but even when its just above freezing, I have never needed to set it above the first click. - It gets HOT!
  7. @ffdriver2 I noticed that you have the Puig front deflectors. Those things are hideously expensive for a piece of plastic, do they do anything? or just for looks?
  8. Sounds like an easy solution to me... 8-)
  9. I like the signs promising a steep downhill grade ahead, Bring on the FUN!!
  10. I have never used the fender extender but will agree on the suggestion for a radiator guard. Other must-have improvements will make themselves apparent as you ride it more, windscreen, seat, suspension etc. Some riders are content with the bike in stock configuration, some use it for touring or sport riding, your needs will be based on how you use it. The nice thing about this bike is it’s versatility, I can spend the day tearing through canyons or mountain passes, or add bags and take off for a week long road trip.
  11. I ride with a GPS as well and the bike usually always reads 1-2mph higher than the GPS. I'm not sure which one is actually correct, but we recently did a week-long 3,000 mile trip and when I got home the difference between my dash "Trip - 2" and the GPS trip total was a few hundred miles.
  12. Congratulations on the new bike and welcome to the forum. Have you taken one out for a test ride? Even though the GT is lighter than the FJR, the seat height is 2" taller.
  13. VERY nice! I like it. I see a red front fender in my future.
  14. Honestly, Lava Red is the only color I have ever heard it called. Maybe its just what Aftermarket Paint Color is called. To make it even more confusing, Color Rite lists it as Deep Red Metallic for both FJ and FJR.
  15. That looks really good. Is this the same Lava Red as the '15 FJ model? A little more red on the front of the bike adds a bit more balance. If its the same color red, I might give it a try on my bike.
  16. According to the Scorpion website the part nos. for the Tracer/FJ are as follows: - RYA101SEO (The last three letters change depending on what finish you want on the slip-on) - Fitting Kit, RYA 101 Z039.10567 The part nos. for the MT/FZ are not the same and looking at the pics on Scorpion's website the slip-on for the MT/FZ comes out under the swingarm at a slightly different angle. For additional info I paid £329 for the slip-on which is $426 at the current rate of exchange. That price also includes 20% VAT so pre tax price should be around $340. Shipping from UK to Sweden was an additional £17 and delivery time was 5 working days. CS Thanks for the heads-up on this exhaust option. I ordered the titanium slip-on this morning. It was actually cheaper to order from the UK and pay international shipping than to buy from a US distributor.
  17. I have to say, I personally HATE the new colors. The dull gray with a bright red side shroud looks like a terrible mis-match. I agree with @David that the bag lids need to be black.
  18. I'm not too happy with the reservoir mount though. Could be a more refined mounting system. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? Stoltec sells one. Penske Remote Reservoir Mount I might pick one of these up myself.
  19. I got it through Bayside Performance in Vancouver. The hose goes straight into the top of the reservoir not with a 90 degree fitting if that helps any. The downfall of that is, the compression knob on the reservoir can't be turned by hand, you need to use a wrench...that sucks. Thanks for that info. My Penske is the exact same setup, and the knob also requires a wrench, my buddies Penske from Stoltec has a banjo bolt connection on the side of the knob mount.
  20. Penske sells them as fixed and remote reservoirs. Penske does not sell a "mounting kit" for the remote reservoirs that I'm aware of. I imagine once the reservoir is remote, the hose length is arbitrary. But I've only ever bought used Penske. What I was getting at was, of the 3 Penske's I mentioned, all 3 have different length hoses for the same bike. My buddies shock as well as mine have much shorter hoses than the one @stumpy has, we couldn't mount ours where his is mounted if we tried.
  21. Who did you order your Penske through? Yours mounts differently than mine (Traxxion Dynamics), different length hose? My buddy ordered his through Stoltec and his mounts different still.
  22. Factory heated grips and MC Cruise, - you’re gonna love them both. The only protective add-on I would suggest is a radiator guard, it’s pretty exposed sitting out in the open.
  23. I have used regular, mid-grade and premium in both Standard E10 and Non-Ethanol, I haven't notice a difference between any of the fuels.
